Zu holds an MFA from Vermont College where she was awarded Harcourt's post-grad semester in 2006. Her novel The Lucky Place (Front Street Press, 2008) is a PSLA Top 40 YA book, an Honor Book for the Paterson Prize, a Cynsations New Voices Pick and is on the 2009 Kansas Reader's Circle Recommended List. Her short stories and features have sold to numerous literary journals and magazines including Harper's, Flyfishing and Yoga Journal, and her non-fiction has been published by Scholastic, Harcourt, Signet and Plume. She writes for both children and adults.
