About Jeannie
My name is Jeannie Kirchen. I started out my life in the little town of Grand Ledge, but when I was six my parents moved to Woodland and then later we moved to Sunfield. Small towns have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. There is nothing quite like growing up in Small Town America. Life goes at a much slower pace. You get to know just about everyone and everyone knows you. Still, I would never trade my small town upbringing for anything else in the world. For any child who has ever dreamed a dream happily awaits for that dream to come true. It was in Small Town America that I dreamed my first dream of becoming a writer. It was here through my explorations in the woods and fields behind the elementary school that my stories and poems began to develop. I took pen in hand and the words inside my head began to form on paper. Words that I never thought I could write, words that I did not even know were there until I put the pen between my fingers and out flowed everything that my heart was feeling. From the very first poem that I read to my neighbor, and the very first story that I read to my sixth grade classmates, I was hooked. Writing became a way of escape for me. Through reading books and writing stories, I could take my heart on journeys that otherwise may have been impossible. For a little while out of each day, my pen would take me on amazing adventures.
Now, I am married to Cecil. Together we have six children and seven grandchildren. I have loved to read books since I was ten years old and I started writing poetry and short stories when I was twelve. Writing is a big passion of mine. I try to write a little something every day, whether it is in my journal, on paper or on the computer. I find a great deal of comfort when I write. There is nothing like sitting in front of the computer with a cup of hot tea and writing whatever comes into my head.
I also love hanging out with my children and grandchildren. They are scattered throughout the U.S. I visit when I can, and they in turn visit me too. However, this leaves only one grandchild in Michigan and I spoil her whenever I get the chance.
I also love gardening, hiking, swimming, being outdoors and enjoy nature. I love to watch a beautiful sunset or catch sight of a rainbow after a storm.
On cold winter nights if I am not found at the computer typing away, you will find me watching television with my husband. While watching the tube, I will also be knitting a promised afghan for one of my grandchildren. They all received blankets when they were babies, but now that they are older, they want Grandma to knit bigger afghans. So one by one, I am completing them and mailing them out. It takes up quite a bit of time, but they are worth it.
I have written several children's stories and I have been working towards getting them published. I just heard about jacketflap today and I am excited to become a member of this group.
