Felix Mayerhofer, born in 1930 and raised in Port Chester, NY, became deeply involved in his 3rd career as a children’s author after retiring as Coordinator of Music from the Palmdale School District in Palmdale, California. He received his B.A. from the State University of New York, Potsdam, and his M.A. from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. After working as a professional big band and jazz trombonist for 14 years, he became a school band teacher at the elementary, junior high and high school level. He was also an elementary classroom teacher for a number of years. His late wife Shirley was a professional dancer in the showrooms of Lake Tahoe, Reno, and Las Vegas, and also danced in movies and TV. Their son David, a fine trombonist, is a professional photographer in Los Angeles (IBakeHeShoots.com) and (davidmayerhofer.com) David also teaches at Glendale Community College in Glendale, CA. Felix Mayerhofer has five books published, "Diary of a Young Musician: Final Days of the Big Band Era," about his big band experiences, and four children’s books, "Horace the Great," "Wobbly Bags a Thief," "The Three Little Godfathers," and "Guitar Cowboy."
