I check the "other" box. My mother is German and my father is Colombian. I'm a military brat who has seen the world. Now, I'm lucky enough to stay home and write full time.

I graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication in 1993. I had no idea I wanted to be a writer. My only goal was to have a job that paid me enough so that I wouldn’t be poor.

When I was a teenager, I worked at McDonald’s. In college, I was a waitress and then went on to Disney to be an intern. After college, I spent over a decade in the retail business. No, I wasn't folding t-shirts at the Gap. I became an auditor because I liked looking at problems and solving them. I also got to travel and meet thousands of interesting people. All of these things have influenced my writing, because you need experience as an observer to accurately portray the world.

I'm married To Tom Williford and we have a lovely, naughty child, Thomas Allen. I also have a springer spaniel, Nigel, who is on a diet.

I've been a member of SCBWI since 2002 and have been published in Highlights for Children, Boy's Life, Nature Friend.

My picture book, Moose, is coming out with Sylvan Dell in Summer 2009.
