I founded and run the Greenhouse Literary Agency, which is a transatlantic agency exclusively representing fiction for children's and young adults (though we represent other types of work when by existing clients).

The agency is located in Washington DC and London, and I have homes in both places. We are unusually international in outlook and I take the view that the whole world is our marketplace. We love foreign rights, though uniquely we call both the US and UK our 'domestic market' and I personally represent our American authors to the UK market.

I was a London publisher for 25+ years before moving to the US and founding Greenhouse in Fall 2007. I have a wealth of experience of senior management and strategising writers' careers, and as a publisher worked with many famous names from both sides of the Pond.

I collaborate in great detail with clients to prepare their manuscripts for submission, and I chiefly look for outstanding potential - even if the story isn't quite shaped yet. I love everything about working with writers, and from long experience I understand the stresses and strains of the writing life - and the dream it represents.

Greenhouse is still a boutique agency, but growing strongly and has achieved many deals both large and small in the 2+ years since it launched. All deals and all authors are important to us, and we are passionate about what we do.

My colleague Julia Churchill is in London, building the UK side of our author roster. I am based in the USA, but am a frequent visitor to London, New York - and the major book fairs, including Bologna and BEA. I am a member of both AAR and SCBWI.
