No camels, Jacque. An abundance of birds, including magpies that come to be hand-fed - actually, now that I think of it, somewhere I have a work under construction about a mother maggie teaching her fledglings to fly - must look it up! There are also possums; blue tongue lizards (referred to as bobtails - or bobbies - locally), which I find totally fascinating and which also come to be fed; racehorse goannas - less trusting than the bobbies; snakes (mainly dugites), which I find less engaging; kangaroos, that drink from the bird bath in summer; rabbits and foxes. In the spring the bush erupts into a cacophany of colour as the wildflowers burst into bloom. The native orchids are exquisite but my favourites are the beautiful red kangaroo paws.

I live on 10 acres in WA (about 50kns south of Perth). I am a new aspiring writer and haven't used the wildlife on the property as inspiration for my stories yet. So far they have all been based on the antics, comments and observations of my beautiful grandchildren. To date I have completed manuscripts for four picture books and another three are germinating.
