About Monique
Monique Duncan is dedicated to educating and positively impacting our youth. She is the founder of Sweet Pea Books anda founding teacher of an elementary school in the South Bronx. Born and raised in White Plains, New York, Monique has always enjoyed writing and drawing, but had no idea she would one day create children’s books. After graduating from Temple University with a BA in Journalism, Duncan enrolled in an education program at Iona College and obtained her master’s degree in Childhood Education. Duncan later moved on to help develop literacy curriculum and train teachers as a professional developer at an educational non-profit organization. Duncan now lives in the Bronx and continues to teach children as she works on future book projects.
Sweet Pea Books is dedicated to producing multicultural stories that inspire, amuse, and foster a love of reading in all children. Author/Illustrator,Monique Duncan, aims to promote self-acceptance, encourage the development of good character, and expose readers to diverse cultures. Her vibrantly illustrated books reflect images and experiences with which children of color can identify.
