About James
Greetings 'Brothers of the Brush'
- That was an appellation a bunch of us used to use when we were at art school - in my case, Leeds, England.
On being released, I headed back home, up North, over the border into Scotland and the fair city of Edinburgh. I've been here off and on for quite a while now. Working as a freelance artist, illustrator, typographer, cartoonist and graphic designer (you get the picture).
My portfolio includes album covers for artists as diverse as Steve Winwood, The Incredible String Band and the mighty Phil Cunningham.
I've also got a distinguished career (it says here) in publishing and book design. I've worked with a few highly regarded British and International authors including Alasdair Gray, John Berger, Antonia Fraser, Yann Martel and Alexander McCall Smith. In 1996, I won the Adobe Europe 'Imagine' Design Competition. That was for my work on the Robert Burns 'Pride and Passion' Exhibition at The National Museum of Scotland. I am currently Creative Director at Birlinn Ltd, an independent publishing house. My website is: www.jameshutcheson.co.uk
