I'm an advocate of reading. I love the written word and am constantly amazed by the kind of artistry that goes into putting just the right ones together so that they actually translate into all sorts of emotions. I grew up in a family where bedside tables were piled with books--some read simultaneously, some just waiting to be explored. Getting up the next day would always be a challenge because sleep came in the early hours of the morning when the last page of the book was read.

Drawing came naturally to me --my grandmother, who was a college teacher, would save up unused blank pages of exam booklets. I'd staple those together and draw scenes from stories I remembered or made up. My favorite was a supermarket scene because I got to fill the shelves with all sorts of tins and packages.

I'd like to be able to write and illustrate my own books but for now, I can content myself with collecting them and encouraging children to get into reading.
