About Gerri
During my childhood and beyond my dad's embellished tales of his haphazard adventures and my interest in all kinds of books inspired me to become a writer. Despite low grades and my teachers' beliefs that the stories or essays I had written were copied I stayed determined to prove them wrong someday. So, I ended up taking creative writing courses during a short stint in college.
While raising a family and working at different jobs I continued to write and discovered my niche in children's books. After joining SCBWI I became a regional advisor and learned so much from supportive peers. I've had a few pieces published for Children's Album, a now-defunct magazine, Positive Action - an educational kids' reading program, and the SCBWI national bulletin. Also, I was a feature reporter for the Noe Valley Voice.
Currently, I'm working on a YA historical novel and a cultural picture book. I'm also a freelance writer and have some articles published online for various subjects, including a few artist profiles and YA book reviews.
