My interest in art began on a white tile floor with small octagons tessellating the length and width of a pink bathroom. As a child, I amused myself finding endless visual patterns in the tiles; flora, fauna, fantasy designs. These tile epiphanies were the start of an interest in art and design, my major at UCLA and a field I have worked in since.

My illustrations draw from my experience in graphic design and scientific rendering. These disciplines influence how image and word, detail and texture come together in my editorial and children’s art. I work most often with paint and paper, a process reminiscent of the hours I spent as a child making paper dolls. These days, little pieces of paper cling to my clothing, catch in my hair, and pour out of my pockets. I design papers using stamping, combing, and stenciling techniques, and collect bits and pieces of everything from discarded old maps, to resplendent (unused) napkins.

In addition to illustrating, it has been my privilege to teach art and develop art curriculum for children and young adults. I live with my family in northern California.
