I am new to jacketflap and a newly published author/illustrator. "Willy Goes to the Farm" is a story about a worm who wants to live on Old MacDoanld's farm but doesn't make a sound. When Old MacDonald decides to open up his farm, not only to animals that make a sound, but any animal that has a special talent, animals from far and wide show up wanting to reveal their own special talents and live on the farm. Willy the Worm decides to go to Old Mac’s farm to cheer on his cousin, the snake. Everyone knows that a worm certainly can’t make any sounds. Why, Willy can’t even think of one thing he can do! How will he ever be allowed to stay?

Come journey to Grimly Valley, a world so severe it is forbidden to smile and people see colors three shades paler than they really are. Here two young parents struggle to prevent their daughter Sonrieta from smiling but to no avail. Sonrieta is sent to the Frowning Tower of Grim to learn proper grimness but instead becomes friends with the artistic misfits residing there, like Antoine, the painter, Oscar, the frustrated musician, Pablo the poet and Grace, the dancer. As a librarian, I thought you might want to know about the debut (last Monday) of The Picnic Basket where library and school professionals taste new and forthcoming children's books with first-come, first-serve sample copies of books for kids of all ages. We send free books. You tell us what you think: look to see what’s in the weekly feast, request the books that you want to taste, read the books, and then post reviews on The Picnic Basket for your colleagues to read.


It’s a blog full of all you can read (and write) about children’s literature and I hope will become an additional resource for librarians. So far, the feedback’s been overwhelmingly positive. I hope you’ll take a peek and partake in the picnic.
