I am a stay-at-home mother of 4 girls, ranging in age from 6 to 13. I volunteer weekly at 2 different elementary school Bible Released Time programs. I was born & raised of American parents working in the United Arab Emirates. While there, I lived a couple years on an Austrian firm compound & attended a British school. My husband & I spent a school year in Al Ain, UAE (my birth place) in 90-91, coincidentally during the Gulf War, where I taught in a very international British elementary school. Upon our return, I spent several years teaching ESL on both middle school & adult levels. I loved it immensely! I have written a series of 15 children's picture books based on my childhood memories. They take place circa 1970 when the UAE was still known as the Trucial States. The main character has the middle name of my oldest daughter but is basically me, so the books are each called "Rosie _______." My older 2 daughters have done a fantastic job illustrating them. My purpose in these books is simply to open up cultural horizons that are otherwise full of stereotypes & bigotry.
