Nancy Loewen has published more than eighty nonfiction books for children, on a variety of topics—bugs, planets, homonyms, dogs, writers, money, citizenship, and much more. Four to the Pole! The American Women’s Expedition to Antarctica (Linnet Books), co-authored with explorer Ann Bancroft, received a starred review in School Library Journal and was nominated for a Minnesota Book Award. Walt Whitman (The Creative Company), a combination of biography and poetry, also received a starred review in School Library Journal and was named to the New York Public Library’s list, “Best Books for the Teen Age.” Poe (The Creative Company), a biography of Edgar Allan Poe, was named to the American Library Association’s “Quick Picks for Young Adults” and received a starred review in Publishers Weekly.

Loewen earned a B.A. in English from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and in 2007 she earned an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Hamline University in St. Paul. Her thesis, a teen novel, was named the Outstanding Thesis in Fiction. Her short story, “Harvest,” won an Intro Journals Award from the Association of Writers and Writing Programs and was published in the fall 2006 issue of Mid-American Review. She’s also published essays in Minnesota Parent and Child magazines.

She lives in the Twin Cities with her husband, two children, two cats, a chubby dog, and an even chubbier guinea pig, who likes to nibble her toes while she writes.
