Michael Shafran is a well-known Australian-based food and travel writer. The native New Yorker (who first arrived in Sydney in 2001) is the former Chief Sub-Editor of Australia's top food magazine, Delicious, and he has also contributed to GQ Australia, Vogue Entertaining + Travel, Qantas magazine, Time Out NY and Melbourne's The Age Good Food Guide.

He also operates the food blog, Gosstronomy.com, and founded mobile and online guides, yourRestaurants (www.yourestaurants.com.au) and yourBars (www.yourbars.com.au) for HWW Limited, now a subsidiary of NineMSN. Most recently, he launched the mobile site (m.lonelyplanet.com), mobile city guides and mobile phrasebooks for Lonely Planet. His first mobile foray was spearheading the launch of the first mobile site for restaurant guide publisher Zagat.com during his time as New Business Manager for creative agency Iguana Studios.

The first half of Michael's journalism career was spent as a successful sport, fitness and adventure writer and editor. He founded the website Skating.com, and regular contributed to Men's Journal, InLine magazine, Snow Country and Sporting Goods Business. During this time, he also trained as a competitive speedskater (inline and ice) and triathlete, co-founded the Empire Speed Club, and served as a member of the Central Park Skate Patrol.

Published credits of Michael Shafran include Skate! Your Guide to Blading, Aggressive, Vert, Street, Roller Hockey, Speed and More, Skate! (National Geographic Extreme Sports), and the food chapter of the Insight Guide to NSW.
