By day, I am the arts and entertainment editor at the North Adams Transcript in Massachusetts. There I spend a lot of time writing about all sides of the art world, and interviewing fascinating people — I am also a seasoned critic-at-large. Much of my attention is focused on the contemporary art world, but I write about anything you can think of in the arts — film, music, graphic novels — as well as science, technology, and even politics. I got my professional start in independent comics in the 1990s, publishing and writing Very Vicky, which was drawn by Jana. After that, I wrote freelance for a number of publications – the Boston Globe was in there – and also wrote for the Central Massachusetts arts monthly The Middlesex Beat, where alongside articles, I was the regular day trip columnist. This meant our family began to make many strange visits around the state, and this work became the basis for our 2003 book, Four Go Mad in Massachusetts, which was published by Commonwealth Editions.

In 2009, I wrote the picture book Happy, Sad, Silly, Mad: My World Makes Me Feel, which Jana illustrated and was released by Andrews McMeel. In 2011, keep your eyes out for The Ocean Story, another collaboration between us that will be published by Stone Arch Books.

These days, I am also the regular comics reviewer for Worcester Magazine, and contribute comics-related articles to Publishers Weekly. In the Transcript, my long-running column, The Kiosk, reviews the best in video, music, and graphic novels. For several years there, I also wrote Megabits And Pieces, a weekly column delving into the sometimes unhinged world of the Internet.
