I received an MFA in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and for the past fourteen years have been working as a freelance illustrator. I started out doing mostly editorial work for clients such as the New York Times, Village Voice, Entertainment Weekly and Salon.com. I got my big break in children's books illustrating a book on knights for Grosset & Dunlap. I did four more books for them and was on my way. My first foray into writing was with my wife, Shelley Ann Jackson, when we co-wrote and co-illustrated Little Lions, Bull Baiters & Hunting Hounds: A History of Dog Breeds. We have since done a sequel on the history of horse breeds and I wrote and illustrated a picture book titled, Wiener Wolf, to be published by Hyperion in July 2011.

I recently moved to Austin with Shelley and our three year old daughter and three dogs.
