I live in a church. In fact I used to attend services in what is now my living room.
My husband and I share our home with our kindergartener son, a few dozen dragons, Coltrane the 22-pound cat and Friskers McGee, our barky Cairn terrier.
For more than ten years, I designed and produced children’s entertainment and educational software, websites, toys and videos. Now I spend my days drawing and painting in what was once the choir loft. I am also fortunate enough to be in Murray Tinkelman’s limited residency MFA program at Hartford Art School. I live and breath illustration for 4 solid weeks a year - with no distractions! It’s heaven.
I didn’t choose to pursue children’s book illustration; it chose me. I do it because I simply can’t stop. It’s the way I think and approach life. Someone else sees an older lady sipping tea and doesn’t think twice. I see that lady and imagine a coiffed ostrich in a boiled wool suit paired with pearls and matching hat. I guess I never stopped playing pretend!
