Jaco Jacobs is one of the youngest children's book authors in South Africa. Since the publication of his first book at the age of 21, he has written and published more than 50 books, both fiction and non-fiction, including picture books, books for middle-grade readers, four collections of children's rhymes, and young adult novels. He is also a free-lance journalist and columnist, and works at a publishing house where he is a children's book editor and translator. He writes in Afrikaans, one of South Africa's eleven national languages. Some of his titles include Suzie se Superdoepersjampoe (Suzie's Superduper Shampoo), Wiskunde gee my maagpyn (Maths make my tummy ache), Superheroes vlieg net saans (Superheroes only fly at night), Wurms met tamatiesous en ander lawwe rympies (Worms with tomato sauce and other silly rhymes) and Liewe land, 'n olifant! (Goodness gracious, an elephant!). He was awarded the Alba Bouwer Prize and the C.P. Hoogenhout Medal for children's literature, and over the past few years, nine of his books were chosen as winners of the ATKV Children's Books Prize, where young readers get to select their favourite books.
