tracy said: My 4th grade daughter's teacher stated that his goal for the year was to make our children leave the classroom feeling confident as writers. He was holding up the book Owl Moon, as an example of a book that took a simple idea and made a beautiful story. His point was that all things, no matter how simple - have meaning - and can have a story.

This is a great book and shouldn't be forgotten due to publication date. We tend to forget the classics--especially with all of the "drill and kill" and testing.

Owl Moon is a fantastic book to use in the classroom as an example of the writing process. Just using a true experience takes you into the world of writing.

Your daughter must have a great teacher. It's good for children to hear that they can write about anything...subjects are what they make of them.

There's nothing like a great book in your bag, huh? What else is in that sub bag? Isn't that the question on the minds of every child who sees you? Now that's a story! Donna Koppelman

I loved this book and so did my students. I used it successfully to teach beautiful language to 1st-3rd graders and have read it to students up through 6th grade. Now, as a retired teacher I continue to carry it to schools in which I sub. The youngest children love to make the far away train sound... more
