The illustrations were created with watercolor, pastels, and acrylic paint. Each page has a picture corresponding to a letter. Each illustration is bordered with white, and the text is below. The illustrations enhance the text, but you could not determine the alphabet letter without it. Nature is a key element in these because Africa is so abundant in wildlife. The detail on some of the clothes is very realistic, and probably required a lot of research.
