Amira143 said: Corduroy is the tale of a loveable department store bear who longs to be “adopted.” When he overhears a little girl’s mother tell her that they cannot purchase Corduroy because he is missing a button, he waits until the store is closed and climbs down off of the shelf in search of his missing button. Corduroy encounters an escalator, and a room filled with beds and couches which he interprets to be a palace. After trying to pull a button off of a mattress and knocking a lamp down, a security card comes upstairs to investigate the noise. Upon seeing corduroy lying there, he takes him downstairs and puts him back on the toy shelf. The next morning Corduroy is greeted by Lisa, the girl from the night before. She buys him with the money from her piggy bank and takes him back to her house, where Corduroy exclaims, “This must be a home, I know I’ve always wanted a home!” Freeman’s watercolor cartoon illustrations appear in an almost dream-like bubble on each page and do wonders to emphasize the text. This picture book would be perfect for story time as there are many crafts that can revolve around a teddy bear, including letting one student at a time take home a stuffed bear named Corduroy, and the next day sharing with the class all of the adventures that Corduroy went on with that student. This activity can help students connect with the literature that they are reading
