CatDiezLuc said: The patriots are fighting for liberty and the birth of a new nation. Valiant George Washington leads the Continental Army against the Redcoats. Patrick Henry uses fiery words to persuade the Virginia House of Burgesses to go to war with the British. Benjamin Franklin eloquently represents the colonies across the Atlantic in their quest for independence. Molly Pitcher supplies drinking water to the soldiers at the Battle of Monmouth and assists her husband at the cannon. Paul Revere delivers messages for the militia while thriving in his trade as a silversmith. Now children ages 6 to 12 can join the quest for liberty and freedom and make movable action figures of these heroes and heroines of the American Revolution. Famous Figures of the American Revolution: Movable Paper Figures to Cut, Color, and Assemble allows children to perform their own historical re-enactments or create new stories using ten of the most important figures of the American Revolution—including Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, Daniel Boone, George Washington, John Adams, Molly Pitcher, Patrick Henry, Paul Revere, a soldier of the Continental Army, and Thomas Jefferson. Reviewed and edited for costume accuracy by Dona M. McDermott, archivist at the Valley Forge National Historical Park, this creative learning tool features detailed illustrations of ten historic figures based on authentic paintings and drawings. The characters come in easy-to-assemble colored and colorable versions printed on heavy cardstock for hours of creative play. A detailed biography section provides key facts about the lives of each person. To add to the learning fun, a reading list is included for parent/teacher read-alouds and independent readers to learn more about the lives of these noble patriots. “Children love to make up their own stories and to have conversations with the heroes and heroines of the Revolution while making the figures move,” Diez-Luckie explains. Famous Figures of the American Revolution: Movable Paper Figures to Cut, Color, and Assemble and Famous Figures of Medieval Times (both June 2011) are the second and third in a series of cut-and-color movable action figure history books from Figures In Motion. They follow the award-winning Famous Figures of Ancient Times (2009), as well as Dinosaurs on the Move (2010 Book of the Year, Creative Child Magazine). Other titles will include Women of History, Famous Figures of the Renaissance, Famous Figures of the Civil War, Famous Figures of the Bible, and Animals Running Wild.
