REVENGE OF THE BLUE JINNI
What a delightful book. It's been a long time since I've read a story so full of fantasy, magic and depth, that tickles the imagination on nearly every page. A real tale! It is not the easiest of YA novels, but that is exactly the beauty of it: you want to keep going, discovering the characters, the events, the fine line between fantasy&beliefs and reality... and answering the questions: who is this blue (evil) Jinni really? and how does Phoenix, the Arab-American girl who is "the chosen one" and the main character of the book, deal with all this faced with the responsibility of protecting the world from the attack of the mysterious and invisible Jinn.
Dedra clearly has put a lot of effort merging rich Middle Eastern culture and folklore with western thinking and novel writing. You need some vivid imagination to create such a book! I can see why it is said that this is the Harry Potter of the Middle East. And why the book would be great (if not greater) on the big screen.
And by the way, the artwork of the book is simply intriguing. I love it.
A book I'd recommend to all young readers. tags: YA fiction, I read |
