A few of her classmates told her she couldn’t be Peter Pan because she was a black girl. With her family by her side she knows in her heart she can be whatever she wants to be. The main character is fully developed quickly, and a reader can sense that she has a vivid imagination and fierce will to succeed. This would be a great story for anyone who was ever told they couldn’t be what they wanted to be. The watercolor illustrations are so detailed it is hard to believe they are watercolor. The texture is life-like on the cat, clothing, and scenery. The clothes especially are important because you could tell from the pictures alone that this little girl likes to play dress up. The children in the classroom are depicted as well diversified. A lot of the colors are bright and bold to emphasis the dress up costumes and personality of the characters.
