In response Farmer Brown types a response back to them and the cows and chickens go on strike. The sheer act of typing letters back and forth from a farmer to an animal is comical enough to generate laughs. The direct, conciseness of the wording in the letter is hilarious because it says a lot but uses a small amount of words. The illustrations are in watercolor with a little bit of black outlining for definition. The illustrator gives the animals blank looks on their faces, and uses body language to express the farmer’s feelings. A reader can almost sense that the farmer is ranting while flailing his arms in the air as he walks down the road to his house. The lowly duck appears indifferent about the situation as he walks down the road
