The illustrations are multi layered, going several steps past most picture book illustrations. Browne's work is all worth checking out; and it offers something for kids and even very astute adults. It's a wonderful work. I saw some of the original illustrations in the Bologna Book fair and they're stunning!

In Spanish or English, there's nobody quite like Anthony Browne - all of his books are worth looking at, and they are many layered. Reading him for the first time, I was reminded of the time I sat down to watch Mr. Bean with my 5 year and 9 year old daughters and their friends.
