All new to this revision will be a more contemporary design, some new photographs, a map showing the four major deserts of the American Southwest, an index, and a list of annotated resources for students and teachers that will include books and outstanding websites on the Internet.
The 1990 Crown edition was one of nine books selected for THE JOHN BURROUGHS LIST OF NATURE BOOKS FOR YOUNG READERS. It was also chosen by the National Science Teachers Association as one of 57 OUTSTANDING SCIENCE TRADE BOOKS FOR CHILDREN in 1990.
