Deborah A Jackson is the author of five books, ranging from picture books to early readers. When she was ten years old, she immigrated from a small village in Devon, England to the wide skies and open countryside of South Africa. After many unsuccessful attempts to view schooling seriously and not a place for play, she eventually matriculated on her terms, and fell in love with her teenage sweetheart. Ruled by her heart, she married young and two children soon followed. The idea for her first picture book was inspired by her child and her worries about the environment. The Tortoise who cared is a tale of fight versus might and seemed to reflect the personality of the author. This was followed by four more books including two illustrated readers. Traditionally published by large publishing houses, Deborah and her family risked everything by returning to the UK and left her writing behind. From there, she created a successful business, studied for her degree and teaching qualifications. After many years, in the real world, and once her children had grown up, she returned to writing. This has been a family project, with her son creating the illustration and daughter, owner of Bad Rhino productions, creating the book trailer. Deborah currently, teaches English and has taken her studies even further, with a Masters in English. She has come full circle and returned to her first love – writing. Heaven’s Children, Earth Totem, is the first book in a series, and she is already putting the finishing touches to her second, Through the Veil. She loves eating chocolate and listening to cold play, reggae, U2 and romantic music especially from movies like practical magic when she is writing. She has a mischievous sense of humour, loves pranks, cries at sad movies, screams at scary ones and never takes no for an answer.
