Carroll Kehne Jr. was born in Frederick, Maryland. He attended local schools and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the Maryland Institute, College of Art. His talents were recognized by the Frederick County Board of Education and in 1962 he accepted a position to teach art education for the Frederick County Public School System. While teaching, Carroll continued his own education, and after receiving his master’s in art education from Towson University he became the Supervisor of Art for the Frederick County Public School System. Carroll then continued his work as an artist in residence, working on watercolors, woodcut printing, and collecting old prints. He has completed several one-man shows in Frederick, Maryland. After his retirement he moved with his wife, Donna, to Stevensville, Maryland, located on Kent Island. It was there, near the Chesapeake Bay, that the idea and concept for Buried Treasure, a Pirate’s Tale originated.
Kehne has volunteered throughout his career for the community and arts education. He was president of the Maryland Art Education Association and founding member and president of the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick, Maryland.
