I've been writing books for children professionally since 1996, first as Alan Brown and, more recently, as Alan James Brown. I particularly enjoy picture books - the close attention to a small number of words, every one of which must be right. A bit like a poem. My books have been translated into seven other languages and a few have been published in the US, namely, Windhover, Hoot and Holler, and I Am a Dog. Sales have never been spectacular, but I am always hopeful of a breakthrough. I guess authors have to be optimists!I live in the Peak District countryside, not too far from my now grown children.
