Hi I'm passionate about young children and their books. But, hate what's being done in the UK in the name of teaching reading. Many years back in the 80s I wrote a small book called Learning to Read with Picture Books and it caused a bit of a stir in the education world. However, lots of people took on board the notion that the medium is the message when it comes to children learning to read. Here in the UK now the wheel has turned somewhat as the government has decided that phonics rules. Sadlly now, other than stroppy, divergent thinker like me, many people in education are following slavishly what the edict says. Poor children are bored to death!!!!!!!!!! and many being turned off reading.
I do lots of reviewing here especially picture books and work with some publishers giving advice. In my spare??? time I do yoga and teach it both to children and adults, meditate,give people Reiki and Indian head massage. I,m also really interested in young children and spirituality and did my MA research in that field. Lots of links to yoga and meditation here.
Am an India freak and go there several times a year; now have own place in Goa and love to work with street children, orphans and those with special needs doing art in Rajasthan and other parts of India when I visit. Obviously as well as chilling out. Now have loads of friends there.
