Obviously you are a night owl, too! Somehow it's hard to get out of the habit of doing my work at night since I had to do it that way for so many years. I began writing about a year after I retired. At first, I applied to almost anything I thought I could do and got a few contract jobs that way. A bit later, I went through the list of children's publishing companies a Google search presented and wrote to many of them. One very good one responded and I've worked for them many times since. The owner's name is Paul LaPorte and the company's name is Classroom Complete Press. Why don't you sent him a note and tell him I suggested that you write him. I'm not working on anything for him now, but he has several different projects in progress. The pay is not great, but it is a way to get your name on a book. Another source of good jobs is www.freelancewritinggigs.com. The site just changed ownership and I'm not sure whether it will continue to be as good as it was, but they do post freelance writing jobs everyday. Other than that, I just watched the job boards and wrote to editors at the companies I wanted to work for. Right now I'm working on a book for Carson-Dellosa and I got it by writing to the editor and sending a resume and work sample. Good luck in your writing adventure!

G'day Penny, how's your fall going into winter? Thanks for contacting me. I haven't really done anything more than having friends tell me to write; I just never got to the publishing idea. Do I have to pay an agent? the publisher? the editor? I really don't know yet, but I'm hoping that being on this group will help. Is it worth sending illustrations? Well, now I have a tremble, so I think that's out for me unless my son or daughter want to give it a try. Although I've written only one picture book so far, I did write something for the family that I think I can rework into a children's story. We'll have to keep in touch, maybe between us we'll come up with something to help us both! ;-)
