Hello Fellow Children's Book Lovers!
I am an editorial assistant-for-hire, as well as a writer and art student. My shelves are filled with picture books and middle grade novels. They bring me back to my own treasured childhood ...When I was a kid, the seasons determined my place: In the fall, you could find me in the crook of my red tree's elbow ... in the winter, on the couch with a bowl of hershey kisses ... in the spring, on a picnic blanket, my fingers playing with the grass blades ... and in the summer, sinking in the hammock strings. Though in my mind, I was never far from a horse farm. Books always kept me in a place of pastures and barns, even while riding in the backseat of the car.It was not until Father's Day a few years ago that I rediscovered the beauty of children's books. A very smart bookstore employee suggested that a children's book would make an excellent gift for my dad. I picked My Dad! by Charles Fuge, and it was a huge hit. So I started finding myself in the children's section more and more.My mother resurrected a box of old books from the basement, which I promptly placed on my shelves. I started reading them, studying them. I started keeping a writer's journal. All of this led to a fantastic internship with Sterling Publishing.In addition to the stories themselves, I adore children's book illustration. I recently began taking art classes - fulfilling a long-ignored aspiration. I love the practice of looking at things differently, more closely, in order to draw them. It has definitely helped me to better appreciate and understand art.I continue to enjoy children's books, and hope to contribute to their creation.Happy reading, writing, editing, and illustrating to everyone!
