Carol Schafer lives in Athabasca, Alberta, with her husband, Steve. They have two grown children: Alison and Carson. Carol worked as a Course Materials Editor at Athabasca University for almost three decades, retiring in 2013. She is a Children's Advocate for Compassion Canada, and the founder of Destiny Dresses. Carol has written two children's picture books, both illustrated by her daughter.

Carol has travelled extensively with her family,visiting Panama, Peru, Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, Mexico, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Bolivia. Many of these trips were to visit their Compassion-assisted children. One of Carol's favourite forms of writing is sending cards and letters to her many sponsored children and others with whom she is a regular correspondent.
