About Debbie
Like many author/illustrators, I have been story telling for years. My creative roots had their seeds planted early. Born into an Air Force family, we had wandering feet. Our travels took us to many interesting places that criss-crossed the United States, and carried us over the ocean to Puerto Rico and England.
Growing up Air Force, my siblings became my best friends and sources of entertainment. My love of art, story telling, and other cultures was sparked early by these experiences.
While earning a Bachelor of Arts in Bilingual Early Childhood Education with a Minor in Spanish, I also studied Art, Layout, and Design. I have a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on reading. Prior to becoming a bilingual teacher, I spent many years as a freelance artist.
My teaching experience ranges from working with preschoolers to adults. I was an Adjunct Professor of Child Development, and Facilitator for the National Family Literacy Program, Motheread/Fatheread
Teaching feeds my creativity because it provides my writing an abundant resource of fresh ideas, and I get to share my love of children’s literature with young, budding readers in my community.
