About Chris
Looking at my high school binders and yearbooks, I can honestly say that doodling and designing cartoon characters has been my pastime for a long time.
A native to Canada, I traveled to California after graduating University in 1991, and never left. I would bring my sketch pad to Washington Park in North Beach, San Francisco, and take in the sights with my black Sharpie pen. I later used my whimsical characters in my classrooms during my ten years of teaching in the Bay Area. In fact, it was one of my students who motivated me to launch my company, Mackie Mack (named after my first daughter, Mackie) in 2003.
In an era of Photoshop and flashy computer generated art, I still want to keep it simple. Yet colorful. I use black ink and watercolor for my paper designs and acrylics for my canvas creations. I like my characters to resemble real people that are involved in everyday activities to which others can relate. For me, I want people to connect to my drawings and smile (ear to ear without a nose, of course!).
I am happy to say that Mackie Mack is thriving and expanding with new images, greater product development, and current licensed art agreements. I am presently illustrating my first book series and am loving this whole new learning process!
I hope to illustrate, and possibly write, a variety of children's picture books in the future.
