I teach fifth grade language arts. I love reading Children's Literature and some YA. I have a Newbery Club open to all students in grades 5-8. We read the new books, discuss them and try to find the Newbery winners each year. It's a great group of kids who love reading. I have been a member of the Children's Literature Assembly of NCTE and was on the Notable Book for Children in Language Arts Committee for four years. I am completing my three year term now with the Excellence in Poetry for Children Committee. We read and review books for Language Arts magazine for NCTE. I have a thriving reading workshop in my classroom and I also believe in read alouds which I do every day. I am passionate about poetry and love to teach the art and craft of poetry.
