Hi, I am Donna and I am a children's book author and writer. My first picture book,WHERE IS SIMON, SANDY? was launched on Oct. 18 2008. It is the story of a little donkey that wouldn't quit. It is an oral tale from The Turks and Caicos Islands. I was told the "seed" story by the environmental officer when on a tour of the islands of North and Middle Caicos. WHERE IS SIMON, SANDY? has won two awards, Mom's Choice Gold, and Indie finalist for picture book.
My second picture book is SATCHI AND LITTLE STAR, a story about an island girl who tries to catch and tame a wild horse. Satchi and Little Star has won Mom's Gold Choice Award, Writer's Digest honorary mention and an award from New England Book Festival.
My first middle grade reader, HURRICANE MIA, is an adventure story of a young girl and her island friend who go in seach of the tea that cures everything.
My latest novel for children is CHARLEY, a historical novel about a orphaned city boy who sings his way into a rural dairy farming family. CHARLEY, is being launched on September first, 2013.
I got the writing bug about six years ago when my daughter took a publishing course at Emerson College in Boston. She needed to acquire a book to publish, so she asked me to write down my stories. I did and we jointly published a book of vignettes from my childhood, entitled, 50 CENTS AN HOUR. After that I was smitten and have been writing ever since!
