About Joan
Previously I owned and operated a gift shop and most recently a small family restaurant. I always had a desire to write, just fun short essays, quirky poems. But my grandson turned eight and he became my little muse, the questions, the insight from his perspective became something I loved listening to. Then the day came he had to write a short story for a school assignment. Since I helped with his homework, he developed a very interesting character, the story line and description of his character came from his imagination. He earned an A grade and his character was born. His character goes through many learning experiences while helping other park critters grow and adapt to the park they reside in.
But the park critters he encounters are usually just as different in looks as he, mixed with park critters that every child is familiar with. Together we have written 4 short stories. We test them out on his five year old brother to gauge his attention span, interest in the story and if he enjoyed the story.
I would love to publish these stories, I am so confident in this character, his adventures, encounters, friends, that I want to share them with other children. Because when this little character learns something, helps someone it's a learning experience all children would enjoy and benefit from. I see that on my five year old's face, when I tell him a new story has been written and he climbs on my lap to hear the story and ask his opinion.
So any advice, help is certainly welcomed, I would love to share these stories with other children!.
