As a kid in Buffalo, New York, I always wondered what it would be like to encounter a whale. I moved north and in 1978 graduated from the University of Alaska with a journalism degree. I worked as a photojournalist in Juneau, Alaska for over thirteen years before pursuing a career in freelance and nature photography in 1993.

My latest book, “Once Upon Alaska”, is my first children’s book and includes some of my favorite images taken throughout the years. I hope that my images will be as successful with a children's audience as my prior books have been with grown-ups. Certainly children deserve the best of the best, and that means beautiful photography, exquisite verse, and top-notch design.“Once Upon Alaska, A Kid’s Photo Book” is a A Mom’s Choice Awards® Gold Recipient.
