About Kristen
Currently I am a public school teacher, working with gifted kids in grades 6,7, and 8. My previous life was spent in Tanzania, where My husband and I raised two kids and adopted a third, and spent 10 years developing income generating projects for women, developing a youth and leadership training center on a beach over looking the Indian Ocean, and having adventures that I hope to turn into books for children.
We had malaria countless times, and lost friends and family to AIDS, TB, and malaria. Sadly, the publishers I have contacted think a picture book about an African family struggling with malaria is a crazy idea. But I will continue to search for a publisher who is seeking this and other African stories such as folk tales, wildlife stories, etc.
I have written a play on genocide that my students took to a competition, and hope to continue writing to support human rights issues in the schools. I write dramatic and educational materials in English and also Swahili!
