About Declan
Declan Henry was born in County Sligo, Ireland. Educated at Goldsmiths’ College and King’s College, London, he has published a collection of fictional stories about disaffected teenagers, Glimpses (The London Press, 2007). He has also produced a website www.declanhenry.co.uk – 2008, containing a collection of twenty-three new and previously published social work and non-fictional articles – as well as a fiction section with short stories and a novelette. His other publications have appeared in magazines and newspapers in both Ireland and the UK: Community Care, Sligo Weekender, National Children’s Bureau magazine, The Kent Journal of Mental Health, Medway News, The Write Angel. Declan holds a Master of Science Degree in Mental Health Social Work and BA (Hons) Degree in Education and Community Studies. His first career was in the hotel and catering industry, which saw him receive a double distinction in the City & Guilds exams at catering college, the only student out of a group of sixty-four to achieve this success. Declan then went on to work in five-star hotels and private clubs in Ireland, France, Switzerland, Australia and England – as well as working as an airline steward for two years. He is a registered social worker and has worked in the profession since 1993. He currently works with young offenders, many of whom have multiple and complex needs. Declan lives in Kent, England.
