Inspired. I am truly inspired to share the natural world with children of all ages, and have written my first of a trilogy of childrens' books to capture their curiosities about our waters. I love the blending of worlds we can find by the movement of stream 'bugs' to the air, the alien-like nature of the free-swimming, crawling, and burrowing bugs in our waters, and the sense of true community and interconnectedness in all life we find on the planet through water. My background is in a variety of sciences, and I have worked in the field with science students using stream dwellers to monitor for water quality. There are so many nuances that make these bugs the perfect character sketches, that I have chosen to capture them in my stories: ecologically-correct cartoon characters with personalities based on their natural histories!
