My name is Peter Cotton, but I was not named after a rabbit. I grew up in England, where Beatrix Potter wrote about Peter Rabbit, Floppsy, Benjamin Bunny and Cottontail. It was not until I moved to USA that I discovered that Peter Cottontail is an American icon.
I am actually a Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology), now at the Medical University of South Carolina in lovely Charleston. My wife, Princess Marion, and I have 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and one great grandson.
When my children were small, I wrote a story for them about "Fred-Fred", actually "When Fred the snake got squished and mended". When they grew up and had their own smalls, they asked "what happened to Fred-Fred". So I was lucky to find an excellent illustrator (Bonnie Lemaire), and the first Fred book was published "When Fred the snake got squished and mended". This won the "best rythmic children's book" by the StoryJam competition in New York last year. Success led to 2 more books "When Fred the snake goes to School", and "When Jungle Jim comes to visit Fred the Snake". All are available at www.petercottontales.com.

I have also published my memoirs called "The tunnel at the end of the light; my endoscopic journey in six decades", proceeds from which support travel scholarships for young gastroenterologists (www.peterbcotton.com)
