Anna Sewell�s much-loved story is one of the best-selling books of all time. It has sold fifty million copies and has been adapted numerous times for cinema, television and theatre.

This edition includes the classic illustrations by British artist Cecil Aldin.

The novel frequently appears on lists of the Best Children�s Books (and was listed at number 58 in the BBC survey The Big Read) but the author did not write the novel for children. She said that her purpose in writing it was "to induce kindness, sympathy, and an understanding treatment of horses".
