Book Description
You're just into your teens, restless and eager for something more than sitting around watching television. Your parents -- if you're lucky to have two -- or sometimes even lucky to have one, are hypnotized by the tube. They've spent a long day at work and even if they talk to you, it's usually to criticize or scold --- or sometimes, worse. There has to be something else...

MoreYou're just into your teens, restless and eager for something more than sitting around watching television. Your parents -- if you're lucky to have two -- or sometimes even lucky to have one, are hypnotized by the tube. They've spent a long day at work and even if they talk to you, it's usually to criticize or scold --- or sometimes, worse. There has to be something else...
That call of the wild, that beckoning from the streets, that need for something different is out there. You either talk your way out or sneak out, but you finally make it out there, with your buddies, those that think and act like you. They are your second family --- and to some of you, your only true family. You're on the streets and you own the night. Your group is only a ragtag unruly mob at first, but they'll improve, as you all grow older.
It's the fifties. You are defying the adult society that's raising you, yet keeping some of its traits. They elect governing officers, they make laws and enforce them, and collect money for their treasury, as you do. They fought wars to protect your country; you will fight to protect your neighborhood, your turf. There are others like you, others formed into gangs like yours, and you must constantly prove yourself, carve out your niche and be prepared for an uncertain future.
You have created your own culture. You have turned the music of Rhythm and Blues into a new sound called Rock and Roll. You are a new consumer group and work force, you are speaking out against what seems unfair in the adult world and you are someone they will need to recognize. What will they do with you now? They will keep you in place, tell you what and how to do things, and make every effort to put down your rebellion, but there are too many of you. You will grow into adulthood, become them and establish rules from both your culture and their tradition.
Collectively, they were as one but as individual personalities, each had their own agenda. Every persona had its own story to tell and those stories combined into the sum of... The Vandals.
