A Rainbow at Night is a lively collection of art by Navajo children. Their imaginative paintings and drawings introduce readers to their world. Through their eyes readers will learn about some of the special traditions of Navajo life--while discovering the universality shared by children of all backgrounds. Here we meet Earl who describes the importance of the desert landscape in Navajo; Valerie who talks about traditional Navajo art and rug weaving; and Vanessa who warns about watching too much TV! The images are accompanied by photographic portraits of the artists and personal descriptions of their work. In addition, Bruce Hucko offers further insight into the Navajo culture and suggests art projects relating to each image that invite children of all ages and cultures to get out their art materials and create!

The images in this book are part of a larger exhibit of Navajo children's art entitled "Have You Ever Seen a Rainbow at Night?" First exhibited at the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian in Santa Fe, New Mexico and in Native People's Magazine, the exhibit is currently touring the United States.
