This is one of Charles Dickens's other Christmas stories, written in 1846, three years after A Christmas Carol. It is the story of John and Dot Peerybingle and how their life is changed by the arrival of an eccentric old stranger (who is not who he appears to be) and the fairy influence of the cricket on the hearth.
