When we last heard from Harper Winslow, he was saying goodbye to his girlfriend, Sunny. Now he is saying hello to something new: a job. A real job. At a newspaper called The Emville Express. This is a dream come true for Harper who, since his days at The Tuesday Cafe, has worked hard at becoming a writer. But could anything he has done in the past prepare him for what is about to come his way? Working after school and on weekends, Harper begins by writing warm, fuzzy features about senior citizens and interesting people in the community. But when the civic election campaign starts, his job duties, and his life, take a significant turn. With his dad running for mayor, Harper is encouraged by his hard-driving editor, Kip Kelly, to dig up as many secrets as he can. And, as if that's not enough to strain family relationships, when his sister crashes her car after a drinking binge, Harper is sent to the courthouse to cover the story. All this is almost enough to drive Harper right out of the business he loves. Except for one thing: along with his other responsibilities at the paper, Harper is given a weekly column -- free space to fill as he chooses -- and this is an assignment he will not give up!
